About the position

As a Principal Architect specializing in integrating products into Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, you will be responsible for delivering solutions that leverage UpToDate's clinical decision support knowledge within clinicians' workflows. This role involves collaboration with various teams, including medical editors, informaticists, and software engineers, to ensure effective integration of clinical decision support (CDS) functionality into hospital EHRs. You will provide technical leadership, oversee architectural design, and maintain comprehensive documentation to support knowledge sharing and continuity.

Responsibilities

  • Architectural design: Design solutions considering scalability, performance, resilience, availability, maintainability, security, deployment, testing, and monitoring needs.
  • Technical leadership: Provide guidance for the development and implementation of integrated solutions, enabling development teams to adhere to architectural design and best practices.
  • Solution Development: Collaborate with engineers to develop and implement CDS applications.
  • Software Testing: Work with software test engineers to develop comprehensive test coverage.
  • Partner Collaboration: Understand requirements and challenges of teams, serving as a subject matter expert.
  • Innovation and Research: Stay updated on CDS and EHR integration landscapes, identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement, and design proof-of-concept activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of development experience with 3+ years at a Principal Engineer or Architect level.
  • Experience in FHIR, SMART on FHIR applications, and integrations with Epic EHR.
  • Familiarity with CDS Hooks standard, Clinical Query Language (CQL), and Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG).
  • Experience with agile engineering practices such as Test Driven Development and Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery.
  • Knowledge of software development best practices, patterns, and principles.
  • Experience with API specification and development, including REST services.
  • Proficiency in Java, SpringBoot, Node.js, Javascript, RESTful APIs, and databases.
  • Experience with Microservices Architectures (MSA).
  • Experience with DevOps techniques and tools.
  • Experience working on distributed teams.
  • Proven track record of completing complex engineering programs on time and on budget.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Amazon AWS, Google Cloud Platform, and Microsoft Azure is a plus.
