About the position

Nalco Water, an Ecolab Company, is seeking a highly motivated and creative scientist to join our innovation efforts in cooling water and closed loop treatments for the data center industry. We are looking for a Principal Chemical Engineer/Chemist to join the Global High Tech RD&E team based in Naperville, IL. In this role, you will be responsible for performing and leading research, development, and problem-solving projects to enable new product and platform development. You will work in a global, cross-functional team to design and execute experiments and communicate results to business leaders and customers. This position represents a unique opportunity for a creative scientist to develop differentiated products and expand the current innovation portfolio. As part of a diverse, global, multidisciplinary cross-functional team, you will collaborate directly with other scientists, research leaders, marketers, sales teams, and customers to develop, evaluate, and deploy technical offerings. You will identify opportunities, ideate, conduct initial feasibility analysis, and lead process and product development, ultimately leading to the commercial introduction of new programs and customer solutions. You will also support projects and program segments to meet technical and business objectives, develop new chemistry programs, asset models, and analytical tools that incorporate automation, equipment, and digital components to solve customer problems. Planning and performing relevant experiments, interpreting results, and documenting and communicating all research activities will be key aspects of your role. Additionally, you will provide technical support to assist the sales process, which may require travel up to 15%. Safety will be your top priority in all research activities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and lead research, development, and problem-solving projects for new product and platform development.

Requirements

  • PhD in chemical or mechanical engineering.
  • Experience in thermal/heat exchange component testing or design and fluid dynamics.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to deliver complex information in an easy-to-understand format.
