About the position

The Principal Chemist and Chemical Engineer position at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory involves providing support for steam plant chemistry and cleanliness issues across the entire nuclear fleet. This role is essential for ensuring the safety and reliability of naval nuclear reactors, contributing to the training of U.S. Navy personnel, and fostering a collaborative work environment focused on innovation and problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Solve problems associated with cleanliness control in Naval nuclear steam plants.
• Perform trials, tests, and/or experiments to support engineering, production, and/or R&D activities.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret data from various sources such as experiments and studies.
• Develop technically and economically sound recommendations and prepare comprehensive documented observations, analyses, and interpretations of results and establish operating equipment specifications.
• Develop and recommend new processes and technologies to achieve cost effectiveness and improved product quality.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 9 years of relevant experience; or
• Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 7 years of relevant experience; or
• Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part II qualified; or
• Qualified SIT and 3 years EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or
• Currently or previously CRE qualified; or
• 6 years as SRE; or
• SRE qualified and 9 years of experience.

• Proficiency at reading fluid system drawings.
• Ability to work in a cross-functional and cross-site team.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong performance record of leading complex work efforts to a successful and timely conclusion.
