About the position

The IT Infrastructure Manager will manage and coordinate the activities of IT infrastructure, network, and system administration teams to support the O'Reilly Information Systems department. The role involves evaluating, recommending, and implementing technical strategies to improve efficiencies, reliability, and performance of computer systems and supporting infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Continuously monitor the system and network infrastructure and make recommendations for improvements or additional resources as needed to keep pace with growth.
  • Manage and coordinate the activities of the System Administrators.
  • Assist in evaluation of new hardware or software technologies to assess their compatibility with existing systems/infrastructure and overall technical capabilities of the solution.
  • Advise on alternatives and on the implications of new or revised computer systems/applications technology.
  • Manage projects related to the implementation or modification of technology infrastructure within the department.
  • Work with System Architects and Engineers to develop standardized solutions for the infrastructure supporting O'Reilly computing environment.
  • Provide active leadership within the department; prepare and give presentations to the department where appropriate.
  • Manage personnel, which includes work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluate performance and make recommendations for personnel actions; motivate employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  • Maintain a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
  • Ensure team member compliance with O'Reilly policies and procedures, including but not limited to, Data Integrity, Software Development Methodology, Project Tracking, and Sarbanes Oxley related activities.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of system administration and design experience in an area applicable to O'Reilly.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedule including nights/weekends.
  • Must work well in a team environment.
  • Expert knowledge of systems infrastructure, networking, and operating systems used in O'Reilly environment.
  • Ability to implement and troubleshoot system changes and modifications.
  • Ability to lead and manage others.
  • Ability to write technical instructions in the use of systems or and/or system modifications.
