About the position

Virgin Galactic is seeking a talented and motivated Reliability, Maintainability, & Serviceability (RM&S) Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be able to perform the responsibilities of the position and meet many of the knowledge and experience requirements. You bring your talent and experience and will have the opportunity to learn from on-the-job training. As a Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for the technical leadership of the RM&S team. You must be an expert in at least one discipline and very competent in several others, producing high-caliber work products while also training, mentoring, and guiding lower-level engineers. You will also be tasked with producing technical process and guidance documents for the team. Typical RM&S work products include Design for Reliability (DfR), Design for Maintainability (DfM), input to Trade Studies, Human Factors, Failure Reporting (FRACAS), Standard Reliability Reports, Availability/Downtime Analysis and metrics, Reliability Test and Evaluation, Mean Time to Repair/Maintenance Man-Hours (MTTR/MMH), Lifecycle/Maintenance cost, Maintenance Planning Data (MPD) and Optimization, Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) / Maintenance Steering Group (MSG-3), Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD), Reliability models, Reliability Predictions, FMEA/FMECA, and other analyses that require joint contributions such as ILS, MTA, LORA, DEL/MEL, and CONOPS. You will perform engineering analysis and present findings within review groups concerning existing, new, and modified systems related to air and space vehicles. Participation in the Reliability Control Board (RCB) is essential, where you will provide standard reliability reports and explore data from company databases. Additionally, you will develop and update Inspection and Maintenance Planning Data (MPD) documents for preventive and operational actions, participate in Verification & Validation activities for RM&S products, and provide technical support to engineering, flight operations, production, maintenance management, and technical personnel. Your role will also involve performing reliability processes, including data collection, metric development, reliability report production, and trend analysis.

Requirements

  • Expertise in Reliability, Maintainability, and Serviceability (RM&S) disciplines.
  • Experience in producing technical process and guidance documents.
  • Ability to train and mentor lower-level engineers.
  • Strong analytical skills for engineering analysis and reporting.
  • Familiarity with Reliability Control Board (RCB) processes and reporting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Design for Reliability (DfR) and Design for Maintainability (DfM).
  • Knowledge of Failure Reporting (FRACAS) and Reliability Test and Evaluation.
  • Familiarity with Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Maintenance Steering Group (MSG-3).
