About the position

The Principal Systems Architecture Engineer at Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) will play a critical role in supporting advanced missile defense concepts and performance analysis. This position involves working closely with the MDA Chief Architect and Chief Scientist's Team to evaluate missile defense capabilities, recommend innovative methods for missile defense, and document findings to inform architecture decisions. The role requires a strong technical background in missile defense systems and the ability to communicate complex results effectively to senior leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Support the MDA Chief Architect and Chief Scientist's Team in advanced sensor and weapon concept design and performance analysis.
  • Evaluate MDS capabilities and assess system performance against projected threats.
  • Recommend and assess unconventional methods for missile defense and defeat.
  • Document results in study and analysis reports, point papers, and briefings.
  • Develop new missile defense concepts and assess feasibility, characterizing and assessing the fundamental scientific requirements to realize new concepts.
  • Perform mission and component analysis to establish capability and performance baselines.
  • Validate developing solutions and mission needs, iteratively assessing predicted performance and test plans against operational requirements.

Requirements

  • Master of Science or Master of Arts degree in a STEM field.
  • At least 12 years of full-time professional experience in a technical field related to missile defense and/or technical analysis of a complex DoD weapon system.
  • Must have a TOP SECRET clearance, with recent SAP experience desired.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work at the customer site on Fort Belvoir in Fairfax County, Virginia.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in orbital mechanics modeling, analyzing variables affecting performance metrics.
  • Experience in laser systems performance analysis focusing on acquisition and track systems, laser propagation, and atmospheric modeling.
  • Modeling acquisition and track sensors to derive results for handover error estimates applicable to the cue of sensors and weapon systems downstream in the kill chain.
  • Experience conducting complex analytical studies and developing or adapting analysis tools.
  • Building reusable, well-documented MATLAB/Python utilities.
  • Experience with MDA Systems Engineering processes.
