About the position

As a Principal Designer at Yahoo, you will be a key player in shaping the future of our design system, ensuring it remains innovative, user-friendly, and cohesive across all our products and platforms. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, and other designers, to create and maintain a world-class design system that enhances user experience and brand consistency. You will facilitate the design of Yahoo's design system, which includes visual style, UI components, and interaction patterns. Your responsibilities will also include establishing and maintaining design guidelines, best practices, and standards that will be adhered to across the organization. In this position, you will conduct regular audits and usability testing to ensure that the design system meets user needs and maintains a high level of quality. Mentoring and providing guidance to other designers will be a crucial part of your role, as you foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team. Staying up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in design systems and user experience design will be essential to your success. You will also advocate for the value and importance of a design system to stakeholders across the company, ensuring that everyone understands its impact on the overall user experience.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate the design of Yahoo's design system, including visual style, UI components, and interaction patterns.
• Establish and maintain design guidelines, best practices, and standards.
• Collaborate with product designers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration and implementation of the design system across all products.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
• 4+ years of experience in UI/UX design, with experience working on design systems.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in creating and maintaining design systems for large-scale products.
• Proficiency in design tools such as Sketch, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and prototyping tools.
• Excellent understanding of front-end development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and their impact on design.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions and advocate for user-centered design.
• Ability to balance multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
