About the position

The Principal, Research role focuses on supporting the U.S. Federal Government and National Defense CIOs in accelerating IT modernization and digital transformation initiatives. This position emphasizes collaborative research efforts to explore emerging technologies and best practices that can enhance the mission and functions of government organizations. The role offers opportunities for personal and professional development within a supportive team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and execute Gartner's proven methodology for conducting world-class research.
  • Manage key research deliverables including large research studies, white papers, case studies, presentations, webinars, guidebooks, templates, and roundtable discussions.
  • Serve as a thought partner to senior leadership and help shape the strategy of the team.
  • Conduct research interviews and in-person meetings with C-level executives to drive research deliverables.
  • Stay abreast of key technology and policy trends affecting the US federal government and national defense departments and agencies.
  • Drive timely and relevant research plans.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Master's degree and/or PhD in a social science, public policy, or public administration preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience conducting primary and secondary research utilizing qualitative and quantitative data.
  • 3+ years experience in U.S. federal government and/or national defense research.
  • Strong business acumen and intellectual curiosity to process and understand information quickly.
  • Experience converting qualitative and quantitative information into clear frameworks, narratives, and visually compelling presentations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience publishing business-related deliverables such as presentations, white papers, and articles.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
