About the position

Microsoft is seeking a Principal Software Engineering Manager to lead a team in the Cloud+AI Silver Core group, focusing on the Azure Virtual Enclave product. This role involves solving complex distributed systems problems, performing devops for the Azure Virtual Enclave Platform, and working on security initiatives across Azure. Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of software engineers in the Reston, VA and Redmond, WA areas.
  • Solve hyperscale distributed systems problems and write software aware of network safety and fault domains.
  • Perform devops for the Azure Virtual Enclave Platform for government customers.
  • Collaborate with Azure Core and broader Azure teams to ensure success of US Government clouds.
  • Define and develop standardized, repeatable, scalable solutions to guarantee quality.
  • Act as Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and Incident Manager (IM) for service monitoring and incident response.
  • Mentor team members and create plans for testing and assuring quality of solutions.
  • Lead architecture discussions and create proposals for architecture and design documents.
  • Ensure compliance with security, privacy, safety, and accessibility processes.
  • Drive efforts to collect, classify, and analyze data on system health and bugs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline.
  • 6+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • Active U.S. Government Top Secret Clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2+ years of people management experience leading a team of engineers.
  • 8+ years of experience with PowerShell, C#, C++ or Java.
  • Experience with large-scale distributed services and on-call responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience shipping large scale software services as a technical lead.
  • Expertise in designing distributed systems and concurrent programming.
  • Familiarity with Linux and distributed storage technologies.
  • Knowledge of network switching and routing, Kubernetes, machine learning, and Cloud security.
