The Privacy Attorney or Privacy Counsel role at The Kroger Co. involves providing legal review, guidance, and support on privacy, data protection, and security matters across the organization and its affiliated companies. This position is crucial in partnering cross-functionally with various business units, including IT, sourcing, product development, engineering, and information security, as well as collaborating with other attorneys within the company. The primary goal is to inform, influence, and advise on data uses and privacy strategies while managing legal risks and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements regarding the use of personal information. In this role, the attorney will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating data protection addendums and other data-related agreements that support a wide range of business initiatives. This includes working with vendors, clients, and business partners to negotiate complex commercial transactions involving consumer data, such as technology, marketing, and licensing agreements. The attorney will also provide pragmatic privacy and data security subject matter expertise, offering guidance on compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations. Additionally, the Privacy Counsel will partner with the Privacy Office to support and enhance Kroger's existing privacy program, which includes privacy operations, documentation, employee training, policy enforcement, and monitoring and auditing. The role requires proactive monitoring of relevant consumer protection, privacy, and data security laws and regulations, as well as staying updated on enforcement actions, technological developments, and evolving industry standards and best practices.
