About the position

Zurich is currently seeking an experienced Private Equity Underwriter (Mid-Senior or Senior) to join our Middle Markets team in New York City. This role is pivotal within our organization, focusing on attracting top customer advocates who possess a sales mindset, strong technical underwriting skills, and solution-focused problem-solving abilities. As a Middle Markets Underwriter, you will manage complex new and renewal business while serving as a Subject Matter Expert in our Private Equity vertical. This position offers a unique opportunity to enhance your underwriting and marketing skills while building strong relationships with our Preferred Distribution Partners in the Northeast Region. The current market environment presents an exciting opportunity to join the Middle Markets team at Zurich, where your contributions will be valued and impactful. In this role, you will be responsible for advocating for our customers within the private equity sector, ensuring that their insurance needs are met with the best possible solutions. You will be accountable for all Private Equity business in the NYC Territory, collaborating closely with our National Industry Practice Leader to grow the book of business. Your responsibilities will include a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment, and pricing, utilizing risk insights and data to make informed decisions at the point of sale. You will identify gaps in coverage and align Zurich's products and value proposition to provide the contract certainty that our customers require. Strong analytical skills will be essential as you execute your role as an innovative advisor, underwriting, analyzing, and generating new and renewal business while adhering to underwriting rules and regulations. This position will be filled at either the Mid-Senior or Senior level, depending on the selected applicant's experience and skillset relative to the qualifications listed. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in underwriting, particularly within the private equity sector, and will be adept at developing and maintaining relationships with agencies and brokers. You will work within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments, making this a challenging and rewarding opportunity for the right individual.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a customer industry advocate focused on improving the customer experience by understanding their risk and offering the best end-to-end solution for their insurance needs.
• Accountable for all Private Equity business in the NYC Territory, working closely with the National Industry Practice Leader to grow the book.
• Utilize a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment, and pricing.
• Leverage risk insights, data, and models to drive informed decisions at the point of sale.
• Identify gaps in coverage and align Zurich's products and value proposition to provide contract certainty.
• Demonstrate strong analytical skills and execute as an innovative advisor.
• Underwrite, analyze, and generate new and renewal business.
• Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating manual rules.
• Develop and maintain agency and broker relationships.
• Work within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area (Mid-Senior).
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area (Mid-Senior).
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area (Mid-Senior).
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area (Mid-Senior).
• Knowledge of line/s of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines (Mid-Senior).
• Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business (Mid-Senior).
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Mid-Senior).
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area (Senior).
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area (Senior).
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area (Senior).
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area (Senior).
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Senior).
• Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business (Senior).
• Experience working in a team environment (Senior).
