The Ambulatory Clinic Healthcare Associate is a vital role within the University of Kansas Health System, specifically located at the Westwood Medical Pavilion. This position is designed to ensure the efficient flow of patients through the healthcare setting, facilitating examinations and treatments in a culturally sensitive manner while providing exceptional customer service. The Healthcare Associate contributes significantly to patient care by preparing patients for their visits, performing limited procedures, scheduling diagnostic tests or consultations, maintaining patient records, organizing clinic and exam rooms, and managing supply and equipment inventories. Additionally, the role involves assisting physicians, nurses, and other interdisciplinary team members in delivering high-quality healthcare services. In this position, the Healthcare Associate will accurately schedule radiology tests, obtain necessary films and reports, and prepare laboratory specimens according to established policies. They will assist physicians and nurses with special procedures and examinations as outlined in their competency checklist. Collaboration with healthcare team members is essential for coordinating and implementing patient care plans, which may include recording elements of patient history for clinical staff review. The Healthcare Associate is responsible for ensuring that all data collected for completed procedures is accurately recorded in the appropriate forms and medical records. Maintaining medical records is another critical aspect of this role, ensuring that all required documentation is available and properly filed. The Healthcare Associate will also perform clerical duties such as greeting patients, registering them, scheduling appointments, pre-certifying tests and procedures, processing insurance forms, preparing financial records, answering phones, and entering ambulatory care charges. They will perform simple procedures as directed by nursing or medical staff and will be responsible for taking vital signs, height, weight, and conducting screening procedures, documenting all findings in the medical record. The position requires the ability to perform professional, clinical, and technical competencies specific to the assigned unit or department, with the understanding that additional duties may be assigned as necessary.
