About the position

The Patient Service Specialist (PSS) at Messino Cancer Centers plays a crucial role in providing quality customer service to patients. This position involves greeting patients, collecting their information and payments, scheduling appointments, and maintaining medical records. The PSS is responsible for ensuring that all patient care is accurate and timely, while also managing various administrative tasks related to patient interactions and office operations.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality customer service by greeting patients and collecting their information and payments.
• Schedule patient appointments including follow-ups, treatments, referrals, and outside testing ordered by the physician.
• Create and maintain patient charts within the EMR and billing systems for New and Hospital Consult Patients.
• Accurately check-in patients, collect and document payments, and verify demographic information.
• Prepare and work reports in accordance with AON and clinic protocols to ensure all patient care is accurate and timely.
• Maintain schedules to accommodate physician preferences and manage patient loads effectively.
• Handle cash drawer and balance it according to AON procedures.
• Answer telephone calls promptly and route calls or take messages as appropriate.
• Contact patients who miss appointments to determine reasons and reschedule as necessary.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
• Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff.
• Proficiency in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems and billing software.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with medical billing and coding is a plus.
• Knowledge of insurance verification processes.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
