About The Position

The Process Control and Automation Specialist is an entry-level role focused on providing support for industrial control systems at the Selkirk facility. This position involves troubleshooting hardware and control software, optimizing plant operations, and participating in various engineering and safety meetings. The specialist will work closely with operations and maintenance teams to address operational issues and execute engineering service requests, contributing to the overall efficiency and safety of the manufacturing processes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 3+ years of instrument experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Basic electrical knowledge and familiarity with industrial control equipment such as DCS and PLCs.
  • Basic to intermediate Microsoft Windows and Office skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and schematic wiring diagrams and P&IDs.
  • Ability to troubleshoot instrumentation and electrical issues.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with industrial control equipment such as DCS and PLCs.
  • ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) certification.
  • Post-secondary training in electrical, instrumentation, or industrial control.
  • Experience writing code successfully deployed in a plant environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide first-line support for industrial control systems, including field hardware and control software.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, control logic, and applications from various manufacturers.
  • Attend scope development meetings with unit engineers to optimize plant running conditions.
  • Investigate and improve control logic and assist in alarm management.
  • Execute process control work orders, including modifications to control tags and console configurations.
  • Perform system backups/restores and manage spare parts and assets.
  • Support the process control system infrastructure, including patching and upgrades.
  • Assist in updating or creating procedures and standards for the process control team.
