About The Position

The Process Control Specialist at Columbus Water Works is responsible for the skilled operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant equipment and facilities. This role involves working on assigned shifts, including weekends, nights, and holidays, and encompasses various career ladder positions. The specialist will monitor and operate chemical feed systems, collect operational data, and assist in maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with safety procedures and effective treatment processes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Valid and clean Georgia driver's license is required.
  • Must obtain a Class 3 wastewater license within the first year of employment.
  • One year of experience working in a wastewater treatment facility as an operator or mechanic is desired.
  • Specialized training in wastewater treatment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs skilled work in the operation and maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment Facility as scheduled by the Assistant Superintendent.
  • Operates chemical feed systems and assists in the unloading of chemical deliveries.
  • Collects operational data for the activated sludge process, primary process, and solids handling.
  • Keeps work area neat and clean and assists laborers in maintaining the facility.
  • Assists maintenance crews in isolating equipment for maintenance.
  • Completes tasks by CWW Safety Procedures.
  • Monitors treatment facility, wastewater collection system, and CSO facilities using SCADA system.
  • Inspects for proper operation of pumps, motors, valves, piping systems, and other equipment.
  • Safely uses hand tools and power tools to perform maintenance on plant equipment.
  • Learns to operate all plant equipment in all aspects of the treatment process.
  • Assists mechanics in preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Participates in staff meetings and assists management in compiling data and information.
