The Novelis Bay Minette, AL team is seeking a Coolant House Process Engineer to work on site. This role will work with the Process Leader of the hiring Manufacturing Unit. The chosen candidate will be responsible for assisting in the development of the cold mill coolant house processes and providing all necessary support to the achievement of the plant's safety, quality, production, sustainability, and budget objectives. This position will support the activities of others related to the cold mill coolant house process and keep current with the constantly evolving technology, balancing it with the needs of the operations to bring forth improvements in automated systems and methods.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all corporate, plant, local, state and federal safety rules and regulations, and staying on top of current policies, procedures, ensuring outside vendors/contractors align with the same.
  • Investigate, develop and provide recommended solutions for any safety issues related to plant equipment requiring field or project engineering as assigned.
  • Establish, implement and audit routine management on the manufacturing unit with KPI, CIV and COV monitoring/control charts.
  • Work alongside operators and other manufacturing unit staff as needed to solve and prevent problems that impact product quality and productivity.
  • Analyze complex analyses and identify areas of potential advancements in the processes, equipment, and facilities to achieve increased profitability through reduced costs, increased efficiency, improved quality, increase production output and optimized equipment uptime.
  • Lead RCAs and FMEAs related to product quality and performance, and participate in others RCA and FMEA to improve other indicators such as MTBF, MTTR and drive continuous improvement.
  • Write and review work instructions and control plans.
  • Ensure that the processes result in a product that meets or exceeds our internal and external customer expectations.
  • Apply innovative technology and techniques to resolve complex problems.
  • Understand and be mindful of any process projects including budget control, schedule, and compliance with safety, environmental and sustainability requirements, to assure performance against expectations.
  • Continually review process methods, equipment, and technology for robustness, reliability, and obsolescence. Develop plans for modifications and/or upgrades as needed.
  • Constantly search for innovations and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to overcome obstacles and find reasonable resolutions to situations on a case-by-case basis as encountered.
  • During plant construction and start-up, work with equipment suppliers as well as the Lead Process Engineer and internal team members to develop conceptual and functional requirements for short- and long-term process and equipment development consistent with the business plan.
  • After plant start-up, optimize the aluminum manufacturing process by working closely with the operations, engineering, and process groups.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering. (Mechanical or Chemical is preferred)
  • Ability to work multiple projects simultaneously
  • Leadership skills; ability to advise, mentor and develop other personnel to accomplish personal, plant and corporate objectives
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills including the ability to solve problems while exhibiting practical judgment and realistic understanding of the issues involved.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills; ability to connect with all levels in the organization
  • Desire to take initiative and develop a pro-active relationship with employees through follow-up, understanding their needs and encouraging a collaborative relationship
  • Ability to travel up to 30% (North America and Internationally) in the first 3 years. After that period, the travel will be less than 10%.

Nice-to-haves

  • Rolling process and coolant house (fluids) experience desired.
  • 1 - 3 years of professional experience of process engineering
  • Background in equipment reliability and/or process control
