About The Position

The Process Engineer will play a crucial role in enhancing manufacturing processes within the company, focusing on activated carbon production. This position requires collaboration with various departments, technical proficiency in chemical engineering, and the ability to lead improvement initiatives. The engineer will also be responsible for developing process documentation and supporting project execution while maintaining strong relationships with plant management and staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent from a four-year college or university is required.
  • 7-10 years of experience in a plant environment is required.
  • 9+ years of manufacturing development/optimization experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Exhibit a high degree of cooperation/teamwork with multiple departments.
  • Support cross-functional department and position assignments flexibly.
  • Communicate opportunities for manufacturing improvement to senior managers.
  • Develop justifications for projects and improvement initiatives.
  • Implement projects deemed valuable for manufacturing improvement.
  • Develop technical proficiency in the manufacture of activated carbon.
  • Seek out and develop new tools to improve engineering and manufacturing processes.
  • Support Facilities Engineering in developing and executing new projects.
  • Develop process flow diagrams, material and energy balances, and draft P&IDs.
  • Perform basic economic analysis of proposed projects and consider alternatives.
  • Guide outside engineering contractors and ensure technical correctness of their solutions.
  • Develop detailed design documents with engineering contractors.
  • Verify equipment and process specifications from outside engineering firms.
  • Work with internal Project Managers to ensure project goals are met.
  • Provide engineering support to production plants as assigned.
  • Travel to facilities regularly to understand processes and engineering needs.
  • Maintain good relationships with plant managers and operational staff.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements in process economy, efficiency, and production rates.
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers in their assignments.
  • Coordinate and participate in the design, installation, and start-up of new projects.
