About the position

As a Process Safety Engineer at Chevron Phillips Chemical, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and compliance of our processes. You will provide expert advice and counsel on general process safety management and risk management, helping to maintain a safe working environment for all employees. Your responsibilities will include managing compliance assistance and program development, as well as communicating developments in process safety compliance to management. You will also be tasked with completing gap assessments for local process safety management (PSM) policies, ensuring that our practices meet industry standards and regulations. In this role, you will serve as a site contact for process safety-related procedures or best practices, developing and analyzing process safety metric trends to identify areas for improvement. You will provide direction on the Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) processes, participating in risk evaluations to mitigate potential hazards. Additionally, you will manage the process for filing and maintaining facility process safety information, serving as a liaison for PSM compliance audits and participating in facility process hazard analysis studies. Your expertise will be essential in assisting with the development of risk mitigation strategies and shepherding unit incident review teams (IRT). You will also review and approve Knowledge Management System (KMS) application recommendations for final closure, acting as the owner and subject matter expert for various PSM programs. This position requires a proactive approach to safety and a commitment to fostering a culture of safety within the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with at least 3 years of experience
  • Ability to accommodate participation in rotating on-call duty
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of the 14 Process Safety Elements
  • Excellent facilitation, organization, and system development skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and work with all teams
  • Proficient computer skills

  • Demonstrated ability to lead effective presentations or conduct group training
  • Demonstrated experience participating in hazard analyses, risk analyses, or incident investigations
