About the position

The Strategic Buyer is responsible for ensuring that goods and services are procured as necessary to ensure supply for the organization and is also responsible for the strategic management of some categories. This role will be involved in PO lifecycle management activities and serve as a subject matter expert and a point of contact for questions and issues relating to the buying processes for the stakeholders in their location. For select categories, this role will develop the detailed category management strategy, identify opportunities, own the category strategy implementation and execution activities, define the annual goals, and will be the primary owner of the management of the supplier relationship process, including assessing and evaluating suppliers, contributing to performance reviews and working with suppliers to resolve price, quality, or delivery issues.

Responsibilities

  • Provides buying support for Category Management teams and production plants to ensure that goods and services are procured for the organization.
  • Review incoming purchase requisitions to ensure that the necessary documentation, specifications, attachments, etc., are included and conduct and necessary follow ups.
  • Where necessary, complete and enter purchase orders into ERP systems and ensure that the process for approval is complete and accurate.
  • Leads the category management lifecycle process for select categories.
  • Develops a view of the balance between supply and demand and actively monitors market conditions on an ongoing basis in order to make informed decisions.
  • Has responsibility for the development and evaluation of 'go to market' strategies for select categories and can achieve creative commercial outcomes through negotiation planning and successful execution.
  • Leads the performance management process for select suppliers, including regular business reviews and working with them to resolve price, quality, or delivery issues.
  • Proactively reports progress against regional sourcing goals/for the specified period.
  • Serve as a resource for routine questions and issues relating to buying for stakeholders.
  • Where necessary, is responsible for ensuring that a new startup plant has the necessary goods and services procured to ensure a timely and trouble-free startup.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of progressively increasing responsibility in Procurement, Sourcing, Category Management, Supply Chain Management, Finance, Management Consulting, or business-related operations in a global environment.
  • At least 2 years of logistics experience preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced certification (e.g., MBA, CPM, CPSM, CPSC, CLTD, PMP) preferred.
