The Industrial Designer - Decorative Lighting at WAC Lighting plays a crucial role in the design and development of innovative lighting products from initial concept through to production. This position requires a blend of creativity and technical skills, as the designer will be responsible for originating and developing ideas that shape the form of manufactured products. Working under the guidance of the Design & Development Lead and the Senior Director of Design & Development, the designer will engage in a collaborative process that includes sketching design ideas, evaluating design concepts, and presenting them for feedback and modification. The designer will assist in the entire product development process, which includes purchasing samples and materials necessary for product development. They will evaluate design ideas based on various factors such as aesthetics, functionality, serviceability, and production costs. The role also involves integrating findings and concepts through sketching and creating simulated models using hand and power tools. The designer must demonstrate exceptional skills in layout, color schemes, and an understanding of current design trends to craft compelling ideas that align with market needs. In addition to design responsibilities, the Industrial Designer will coordinate with the international engineering team to finalize product details, identify purchased components, and assist in vendor selection. They will conduct detailed research for components suitable for prototypes or final products and collaborate with Product Managers to review and approve product ideas that meet customer needs. The designer will also be responsible for developing detailed drawings in SolidWorks to ensure accuracy in dimensions, size, and part compatibility.
