About the position

As a Product Designer at Sony Music Entertainment, you will be an integral part of the Product Design Engineering (PDE) team, focusing on creating valuable tools for artists, labels, and internal users. This full-time position is based in our New York office, where you will collaborate with a diverse team of product managers, stakeholders, and engineers across both US and EU locations. Your role will involve working on strategic products and initiatives that enhance user experience and drive innovation within the company. In this position, you will support one of our key product areas by taking ownership of the design and user experience (UX) for all features and applications within that domain. You will navigate a complex system of content and permissions, managing a significant amount of data to ensure that our tools are both functional and user-friendly. Your contributions will extend to the product roadmap, where you will collaborate with the product team to discover, define, and prioritize essential product work. Your focus will be on creating value for users by proposing elegant and straightforward design solutions that address their challenges and capitalize on new opportunities. You will coordinate with other product designers and product managers to establish a consistent experience language and ensure seamless connections between applications. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with fellow designers on their projects, providing feedback, mentorship, and leadership as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Support one of our key Product areas by owning the design and UX of all features and apps in this area.
  • Work within a complex system of content and permissions, dealing with a huge amount of data.
  • Contribute to the roadmap by collaborating with the product team to discover, define, and prioritize product work.
  • Create value for users by suggesting elegant and simple design solutions that solve their problems and seize new opportunities.
  • Coordinate with the product design team and PMs in other teams to create a consistent experience language and seamless connections between apps.
  • Collaborate with other product designers on their projects to give feedback, collaborate, lead, or mentor.

Requirements

  • Interest and excitement about problem solving and complex systems.
  • An aptitude for systems thinking and information architecture.
  • Experience in planning and running discovery to identify necessary input and the best methods to obtain it.
  • Interaction design skills for both desktop and mobile platforms.
  • Experience in running collaborative workshops to communicate user needs and collaborate with business and engineering teams.
  • Aptitude for simplifying complexity and transforming data into valuable information.
  • Eagerness to learn, self-driven, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with user research methodologies.
  • Familiarity with design tools such as Sketch, Figma, or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Knowledge of front-end development technologies.
