About the position

The Product Owner I for Risk Proposal & Issuance at Liberty Mutual Insurance plays a crucial role in representing the voice of the customer and the organization within an Agile team. This position focuses on delivering business value by collaborating with stakeholders to define and prioritize product features, ensuring alignment with customer needs and organizational goals. The role involves managing the product backlog, developing product strategies, and ensuring the successful delivery of underwriting products and capabilities for the Surety business.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for developing and achieving product level KPIs with the squad.
  • Manage product(s) with a high degree of strategy, scope, and complexity.
  • Own and maintain the product backlog, ensuring its contents and prioritization are clear and actionable.
  • Participate in squad/team demos, retrospectives, and all other ceremonies.
  • Balance tactical and strategic decisions for the product, collaborating with peer product owners and technical leaders.
  • Lead sessions with users, customers, and SMEs to gain a thorough understanding of the product and opportunities.
  • Partner with User Experience to ensure products are intuitive and cohesive.
  • Monitor and maintain product health, designing additional monitoring as needed.
  • Analyze and report on feasibility, cost of delay ramifications, and other aspects of planned changes to the product.
  • Drive alignment with stakeholders regarding regulatory and compliance impacts on products.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Agile development methodologies and IT project management, typically acquired through a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 2 to 4 years of direct experience with agile teams.
  • 5 years of experience in business, technology, or consulting.
  • Ability to depict complex ideas and educate departments on business vision and impact of change.
  • Strong decision-making skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience in the insurance industry is preferred.
  • Knowledge of relevant products and portfolio is preferred.
