About the position

Bethpage Federal Credit Union is seeking a Product Owner I who will play a crucial role in the development and management of digital products. This position requires a deep understanding of the current and future needs of stakeholders, ensuring that the product vision aligns with the strategic goals of the organization. The Product Owner will collaborate closely with various teams and stakeholders to create a comprehensive product roadmap that guides the development process. This role is pivotal in advocating for the product to leadership and stakeholders, ensuring that the end-to-end delivery of the desired product meets the highest standards of excellence and member service. The successful candidate will be responsible for capturing, summarizing, and organizing stakeholder needs and goals into clear themes, epics, and user stories within a product backlog. This involves conducting thorough research, interviews, and strategic goal setting. The Product Owner must possess the ability to tell a compelling story about the product, create user personas, and define acceptance criteria and the definition of done for each product increment. Additionally, the role requires identifying and mapping out project dependencies to inform the necessary sequence of development, ensuring that the product vision is communicated effectively during team ceremonies. As a liaison between stakeholders and the development team, the Product Owner will ensure that there is buy-in from stakeholders on all major decisions and strategies, while providing clear instructions and deliverables for developers. This position also involves managing third-party and vendor relationships, resolving conflicts, and problem-solving within the team and with external partners. The Product Owner will drive product development through market research, understanding consumer behavior, and assessing the competitive landscape, while also being responsible for strategies to mitigate fraud and ensure compliance with Customer Identification Programs. The role requires a proactive approach to introducing technology and processes that support the prevention of fraudulent activity, as well as a keen understanding of market trends related to digital payments and emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a deep understanding of current and future needs of stakeholders for their digital products.
  • Collaborate with the team and stakeholders to create a product roadmap.
  • Lead the product vision and advocate for the product to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Capture, summarize, and organize stakeholder needs and goals in clear themes, epics, and user stories in a product backlog.
  • Tell a clear story and create personas to provide a clear vision of the product, including acceptance criteria and definition of done.
  • Identify and map out project dependencies to inform the necessary sequence of development.
  • Participate in team ceremonies to ensure product vision is communicated and understood.
  • Define user stories (requirements) and participate in scrum team meetings to ensure delivery of product enhancements.
  • Act as liaison and primary communicator between stakeholders and development team members.
  • Manage third-party and vendor relationships and accountability on deliverables.
  • Resolve conflicts and problem-solve within the team, vendors, and collaborating areas.
  • Plan for future work while maintaining current delivery with rapidly changing priorities.
  • Drive product development by conducting market research and understanding consumer behavior.
  • Build, test, and maintain Bethpage digital acquisitions and banking platforms.
  • Implement strategies and tools to mitigate fraud and ensure compliance with Customer Identification Programs.
  • Analyze and review digital, online, and mobile transactions to limit fraudulent activity and reduce chargebacks.

Requirements

  • 3+ years in the Digital Product Owner role in a Financial Institution.
  • 3+ years of demonstrated experience with online payments including Zelle, digital wallets, and real-time payments.
  • 3+ years of experience working with fraud systems (i.e. Verafin, Biocatch).
  • Bachelor's degree or better.

  • Experience with analytics engines (i.e. Google Analytics)
