About the position

The Production Manager - Secondary Operations at Medical Spectrum Plastics Group is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the daily activities of the Medical and LMCO Defense product areas. This position requires a dynamic leader who can develop and maintain a well-trained, high-energy, motivated cross-functional team. The Production Manager will drive safety initiatives, enhance production efficiency, implement technology improvements, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and cost reduction within the organization. In this role, the Production Manager will actively promote and drive a culture of safety, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and addressing any unsafe practices. The manager will be responsible for the overall direction, coordination, capacity planning, and evaluation of all production equipment and department employees. Daily production support will be provided to achieve departmental goals related to safety, quality, on-time delivery, scrap reduction, efficiency, and cost improvements. The Production Manager will utilize Lean Manufacturing methodologies to drive continuous improvement activities aimed at enhancing both the efficiency and quality of manufacturing processes. This includes researching, identifying, and implementing new technologies to improve overall manufacturing operations. The manager will interface with various departments, including Sales, Account Coordinators, Development Engineering, Maintenance, Shipping, and Planning personnel, to ensure product commitments are met. Key responsibilities also include staffing management, which encompasses selection, discipline, evaluations, compensation, and temporary staffing levels. The Production Manager will create an environment that promotes continuous improvement and effective team communication, while also providing ongoing training to subordinates on the latest industry methods and technologies. Timely reporting and in-depth analysis of key production indicators will be essential to track progress and drive improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and drive a culture of safety within Spectrum Plastics Group.
  • Oversee the overall direction, coordination, capacity planning, and evaluation of all production equipment and department employees.
  • Provide daily production support to achieve department goals for safety, quality, on-time delivery, scrap, efficiency, and cost improvements.
  • Drive continuous improvement activities using Lean Manufacturing methodologies.
  • Research, identify, and implement new technologies to improve overall manufacturing operations.
  • Interface with Sales, Account Coordinators, Development Engineering, Maintenance, Shipping, and Planning personnel to achieve product commitments.
  • Manage staffing including selection, discipline, evaluations, compensation, transfers, and temporary staffing levels.
  • Provide an environment that promotes continuous improvement and coordinates team communication and morale.
  • Develop and provide ongoing training for subordinates on the latest methods and technologies within the industry.
  • Provide timely reports with in-depth analysis concerning various key production indicators and measurements.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained and supported.
  • Be attentive to new manufacturing technologies and recommend equipment that facilitates improvements.
  • Support the Sales Strategy and identify manufacturing needs to exceed customer expectations.
  • Play an active role in safety issues, correcting unsafe conditions, and ensuring OSHA compliance.
  • Develop and execute strategies for continuous improvement and improved efficiency through Kaizen, 5S, and other Lean Manufacturing principles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (B.S.) or five years of related work experience and/or education.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to identify, gather, and analyze information, develop solutions, and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • High level of accountability aligned with the policy of Promises Made - Promises Kept.
  • Experience with engineered resins in an injection molding processing environment, value-added CNC, and secondary operations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment.
