About the position

JW Hicks is a growing Northern Indiana based manufacturing company looking to add more Production Laborers to our team in Merrillville, IN. The ideal candidate for JWHI is someone who is dependable, has a positive attitude, and shows the ability and willingness to learn. As a Production Worker (Laborer), you will be responsible for operating forklifts and overhead cranes to move raw materials and work in progress, as well as assembling and disassembling molds for shipping finished products. You will batch raw materials in preparation for mixing, operate mixers, and add minor ingredients to prepare mixes for casting or pressing. Additionally, you will cast or press products, record and enter data into the ERP operating system, measure and cut materials according to blueprints, and prepare samples for quality testing. Your role will also involve operating ovens and kilns to dry and fire products, preparing and finishing products for final shipping, and inspecting products to ensure conformance. Maintaining raw material and product identification for traceability is crucial, and you will assist fabricators as needed while keeping your work area neat and orderly.

Responsibilities

  • Operate forklifts and overhead cranes to move raw materials and work in progress.
  • Assemble and disassemble molds for shipping finished products.
  • Batch raw materials in preparation for mixing.
  • Operate mixers and add minor ingredients to prepare mixes for casting or pressing.
  • Cast or press products.
  • Record and enter data into ERP operating system.
  • Measure and cut materials to length according to blueprints.
  • Prepare samples for quality testing.
  • Operate ovens and kilns to dry and fire products.
  • Prepare and finish/package products for final shipping.
  • Inspect products to assure conformance.
  • Maintain raw material and product identification to ensure traceability.
  • Assist fabricators as needed.
  • Maintain work area in a neat and orderly condition.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required for hire.
  • Good "hands on" skills with reasonable mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. consistently throughout the shift.
  • Positive attitude, ability and willingness to learn.

Nice-to-haves

  • Forklift qualification and forklift maintenance inspection.
  • Familiarity with rigging and use of lifting devices.
  • CPR and First Aid training.
