About the position

The Professional Responsibility Counsel at Hall Render is a pivotal role focused on promoting ethical practices within the firm. This position involves developing training programs, advising on ethical issues, and ensuring compliance with professional responsibility rules. The Counsel will also provide expert guidance on conflicts of interest, manage legal matters related to the firm, and stay updated on legal developments in professional responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Champion ethical practices across the Firm's offices by developing and delivering training programs on professional responsibility and ethical conduct.
  • Advise attorneys and staff on ethical issues and ensure compliance with professional responsibility rules.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new hires on ethics and compliance topics.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership to integrate ethics and compliance into all aspects of operations.
  • Serve as the firm's Conflicts attorney and work with the Conflicts team to analyze engagements and draft waivers.
  • Analyze complex ethical issues and provide legal opinions and memoranda.
  • Manage conflicts of interest and advise on client engagement matters.
  • Work on firm-related legal matters with General Counsel, including auditing firm policies and developing new policies.
  • Evaluate state business licensure requirements and oversee filings in partnership with external vendors.
  • Oversee review of the firm's engagement letter content and vendor agreements.
  • Partner with Administrative departments on legal/ethical issues, including cybersecurity planning.
  • Research and stay current with evolving legal updates and developments in professional responsibility.
  • Identify and implement best practices to enhance professional responsibility practices.
  • Participate in industry forums and committees to share expertise and learn from others.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
  • 5+ years of experience practicing professional responsibility law, either in-house or at a law firm.
  • Unwavering commitment to ethical conduct and a demonstrated interest in professional responsibility work.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to navigate complex ethical dilemmas.
  • Exceptional communication skills to engage audiences and deliver training.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities with attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of professional responsibility rules and ethics (e.g., ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct).
  • Admission to the bar in the state of residence.
  • Commitment to handling confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
