About the position

The Director of Early Childhood and Elementary Teacher Education at Hocking College will be responsible for supervising instructors, engaging schools in for student practicum placements, advising Hocking College students, monitoring program outcomes, instructing courses, and serving as the lead instructor of the Early Childhood Teacher education degree programs. Our Early Childhood Teacher Education program has traditionally focused on pre-K instruction and training, but due to demand and articulation agreements with other institutions of Higher Education, we are looking to expand course offerings to include elementary education specific training.

Responsibilities

  • Provides effective day-to-day management and administration of the program within the School of Workforce Development
  • Supervise instructors including hiring and training
  • Engage with schools and childcare facilities in practicum and employment opportunities
  • Advise students including developing and sustaining student relationships through participation in orientation, intrusive advising, coaching and mentorship
  • Monitor program outcomes
  • Instruct courses and serve as the lead instructor of the Early Childhood Teacher Education degree programs
  • Provide actionable information to the Dean of Workforce Development
  • Annual curriculum review including but not limited to forming and maintaining a pre-K and elementary education advisory board of education experts and employers

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Early Childhood Teacher Education, Elementary Education, or related.
  • Active K-12 teaching license such as PK-3, 4-12, 7-12, or have held one within the last 3 years.
  • 3-5 years of teaching experience
  • Evidence of professional development in the field of concentration as demonstrated by activity in professional associations, consultative practice; participation in seminars, workshops, and formal coursework, and individual reading and research.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong technology skills including usage of email, student information system, and learning management system
  • Organizational, record-keeping, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of subject area.
  • Knowledge of educational theory and application.
  • Knowledge of learners and individual learning styles.
  • Interest in and commitment to the learner-centered educational process.
