About the position

The Programmer Analyst 3 - PowerBuilder Developer position is a long-term opportunity based in Lansing, MI, offering a hybrid work environment. The role requires a highly skilled individual with extensive experience in PowerBuilder Development, particularly with version 7 or higher, and advanced SQL query writing capabilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks including data management, source control, unit testing, documentation, and production support. This position is critical for ensuring data integrity and supporting the development and maintenance of applications that utilize Sybase and MS SQL Server databases. In this role, the individual will engage in daily activities that include writing complex SQL queries to extract and manipulate data, performing data profiling, mapping, and validation, as well as documenting processes and changes. The candidate will also be expected to collaborate with clients and Business Analysts to support test scenarios and analyze problems to determine root causes. Following change management procedures is essential, and the candidate will provide input to execute necessary changes effectively. The ideal candidate will possess a strong willingness to learn and adapt, as well as a solid educational background in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. The role emphasizes the importance of maintaining thorough documentation for programs, system specifications, and flow diagrams, ensuring that all changes and processes are well-documented and communicated effectively.

Responsibilities

• Write complex SQL queries to pull data from Sybase and MS SQL Server databases.
• Develop and maintain PowerBuilder applications (version 7 or higher).
• Document and perform unit testing to support program changes.
• Create, update, and maintain documentation for programs, system specs, and flow diagrams.
• Analyze and document identified problems to determine root causes and provide root cause analysis.
• Support test scenarios in collaboration with clients and Business Analysts.
• Follow change management procedures and provide input to execute changes.
• Perform data profiling, mapping, manipulation, validation, and analysis.
• Research and modify PowerBuilder source code to document application data processes.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in SQL query writing, specifically T-SQL.
• 5+ years of experience in PowerBuilder Development (version 7 or higher).
• 5+ years of experience working with source control technologies such as TFS/Azure DevOps or GIT.
• Experience documenting and performing unit testing for software applications.
• Some college education in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related IT discipline.
