About the position

The Programmer Analyst I position at Weill Cornell Medicine is a critical role within the Health Informatics unit, located on the Upper East Side of New York City. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about data management and analysis in a research context. Under close supervision, the Programmer Analyst I will provide dedicated data management support for various research projects. This includes querying databases and preparing datasets for analysis, ensuring that the data is clean, validated, and ready for statistical examination. The role also involves collaborating with Research Biostatisticians, offering programming support as needed, and contributing to the overall success of research initiatives. In this role, the Programmer Analyst I will manage and construct large and complex datasets from multiple data sources. Regular meetings with both internal and external collaborators will be essential to discuss data requests and provide progress updates. The candidate will be responsible for performing data cleaning using programming languages such as R or SAS, preparing datasets for statistical analysis, and summarizing results in clear, presentation-ready reports for research teams. This position requires a strong foundation in data management, programming, and effective communication skills, particularly in translating clinical questions into appropriate data queries. Responsibilities

  • Manages and constructs large and/or complex datasets using multiple data sources.
  • Engages in data cleaning and data validation.
  • Regularly meets with internal and external collaborators to discuss data requests and progress updates.
  • Performs data cleaning in R or SAS to prepare datasets for statistical analysis in collaboration with Research Biostatisticians.
  • Independently summarizes and delivers results of data management and analysis work to research team(s) in readable, presentation-ready reports.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in biostatistics or a related health discipline with a concentration or certificate in biostatistics/data analysis.
  • Minimum 1-2 years' experience providing data management/programming support, either within the academic curriculum or part of a consulting service unit.
  • Experience working with large datasets (millions of records) preferred.
  • Fluency in SAS programming, including proficiency with macro language.
  • Proficiency in SQL and R programming.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work under tight deadlines and manage changing priorities.
  • Meticulous coding and documentation of code.
  • Effective communication and familiarity with clinical terminology.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with PostgreSQL databases beneficial.
  • SAS Certification preferred.
