The Project Engineer - Furniture at UL, LLC is responsible for managing and executing projects related to furniture testing and certification. This role involves determining project scope, developing plans, and ensuring compliance with UL requirements while providing technical assistance to clients. The position requires strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate laboratory activities and client interactions effectively.

  • Independently determines project scope and develops a preliminary plan of investigation.
  • Initiates communication with clients to promote and explain the benefits of new and existing services.
  • Coordinates laboratory activities by preparing data sheets and instructions to technicians, scheduling and reviewing work of Laboratory Technicians and support staff.
  • Acts to address client concerns and resolve client issues.
  • Provides technical assistance to clients regarding product inspection and follow-up services.
  • Notifies clients of any areas in which the product is not in compliance with UL requirements.
  • Communicates project status and results to clients through frequent contact and by preparing reports.
  • Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
  • Resolves engineering issues associated with Variation Notices by analyzing and reporting on the acceptability of the variations.
  • May represent UL at industry-related functions such as seminars and trade shows.
  • University Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar required.
  • 5-8 years of experience in the Furniture or Testing, Inspection, and Certification (TIC) industries.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience with project management software.
  • Knowledge of furniture industry standards and regulations.
