About the position

As a Project Engineer at WSB, you will take on a pivotal role in the design and coordination of roadway, drainage, and utility projects for both public and private clients. This position is integral to ensuring that projects are executed with the highest quality and efficiency. You will collaborate closely with various groups and disciplines within the company, leveraging collective expertise to deliver exceptional service and innovative solutions to our clients. Your responsibilities will encompass a range of tasks, including performing design calculations, preparing quantity and cost estimates, and developing comprehensive project plans. In addition to technical design work, you will be responsible for compiling, writing, and editing a variety of technical documents such as reports, feasibility studies, letters, memos, and specifications. Your role will also involve assisting with project proposals, managing budgets and schedules, and engaging in planning activities that include public involvement and presentations. As you progress in your career, you may take on additional responsibilities such as planning, directing, and coordinating project activities to ensure timely and budget-compliant delivery. This will require regular communication with clients, oversight of project schedules and budgets, and coordination with subconsultants. This position offers flexibility in terms of location, as it can be based out of either our Bismarck, ND office or our Fargo, ND office. Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and coordination of roadway, drainage, and utility projects.
  • Collaborate with other groups and disciplines within the company to deliver quality projects.
  • Perform design calculations, quantity and cost estimates, and plan preparation.
  • Compile, write, and edit technical reports, feasibility reports, letters, memos, and specifications.
  • Assist with proposals, project budgets, schedules, and planning activities.
  • Oversee the work of Engineers in Training (EITs) or Technicians.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate project activities to ensure timely and budget-compliant delivery.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients regarding project status and requirements.
  • Coordinate with subconsultants to ensure project objectives are met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • 4-7 years of experience in Transportation / Municipal engineering or a related field.
  • Ability to prepare, read, and understand construction plans and technical documents.
  • Functional understanding of design software packages, preferably AutoCAD Civil 3D and HydroCAD.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong work ethic.

Nice-to-haves

  • North Dakota PE license or the ability to obtain it within six months.
