About the position

The Project Engineer position at Graniterock is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing and managing various aspects of onsite construction and engineering activities. The Project Engineer will be expected to comply with and promote corporate and division safety initiatives, ensuring that all team members are aware of and adhere to safety protocols. This role also involves financial responsibilities, including the development and sharing of daily, weekly, and monthly cost reports with the project team, as well as assisting with project financial forecasts to maintain budgetary compliance. Operationally, the Project Engineer will manage a variety of tasks such as updating resource and project schedules, performing quantity take-offs, assisting with material orders, and collaborating with project teams to develop comprehensive work plans. Understanding and following all contract documents is crucial, as the Project Engineer must notify customers of any changed conditions or additional work that may impact project costs or schedules. Administrative duties will also be a significant part of the role, including reviewing and approving time cards, submittals, and correspondence, as well as maintaining accurate project documentation such as as-built drawings and vendor invoices. Customer service is another critical component, as the Project Engineer will represent the company during client meetings, fostering constructive relationships with customers and subcontractors. The Project Engineer will manage small to mid-sized projects, ensuring that they meet deadlines and cost expectations while supporting construction planning, quality control, and documentation reviews to guarantee successful job completion.

Responsibilities

  • Comply, understand, and promote corporate and division safety initiatives to ensure 'Safety before All Else.'
  • Develop and share daily/weekly/monthly cost reports with the project team and assist with project financial forecasts.
  • Manage operational tasks including updating resource schedules, project schedules, performing quantity take-offs, assisting with material orders, and developing work plans in alignment with safety and quality requirements.
  • Understand and follow all contract documents, notifying the customer of changed conditions or added work that affects project cost or schedule.
  • Perform administrative project tasks including reviewing/approving time cards, submittals, RFI's, owner/subcontractor correspondence, quantity tracking, maintaining as-built drawings, and vendor invoices.
  • Represent the company during client and project meetings to ensure effective communication and build constructive working relationships with customers and subcontractors.
  • Manage small to mid-sized projects by meeting project deadlines and cost expectations.
  • Support construction planning, quality control, design, methods, documentation, and reviews to ensure job completion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred, or equivalent combinations of technical training and related experience.
  • 4+ years in construction estimating support, engineering, field support, or similar experience.
  • Proficiency with all MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Knowledge of CADD or similar program; HCSS HeavyJob.
  • Working knowledge of construction equipment, techniques, drawing, and specifications, building materials and required standards applicable to discipline.
  • Ability to perform trigonometric calculations either manually or with a calculator.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and communicate effectively with others.
