About the position

The Project Manager role within the Business Process Planning (BPP) Group at SMBC Group is designed to enhance governance and control over initiatives and projects, particularly in the Middle and Back Office sectors. This position involves managing project prioritization and business review processes, ensuring compliance with governance policies, and facilitating effective communication between various departments. The Project Manager will support both SMBC Capital Markets, Inc. and SMBC Nikko Securities America, Inc., focusing on stakeholder engagement and project management best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the IT project prioritization process, including reviewing new items and maintaining project management tools.
  • Guide the Business Review process, ensuring effective communication and compliance among requestors and approvers.
  • Act as the primary contact for Material Initiative Governance (MIG) in Nikko/CM, ensuring compliance with policies and guiding project managers.
  • Produce high-quality workflow diagrams, dashboards, and documents for key performance indicators, and prepare meeting materials and minutes.
  • Support the Chief Operating Officer (COO) with Firmwide PMO activities, including project management and status reporting.
  • Provide project governance throughout the project lifecycle, from initiation to closure, as per PLM procedures.
  • Coordinate operational procedures between Front Office and Middle Back for Fixed Income Primary Issues as needed.
  • Assist with vendor management tasks, including working on Statements of Work (SOWs) and onboarding consultants.

Requirements

  • More than 3 years of project management experience for middle to large projects (more than 10 project members, duration over 3 months).
  • Ability to manage projects with multiple stakeholders and conflicting priorities, demonstrating effective collaboration and communication skills.
  • Proactive in identifying and addressing risks and issues with potential solutions.
  • Detail-oriented while maintaining a focus on the overall project objectives.
  • Advanced planning and organizing skills to manage workload effectively for self and team members.

Nice-to-haves

  • Leadership experience is a plus.
  • Experience as a meeting host, including preparation of presentation slides and coordination is a plus.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of Jira, ServiceNow, or other project management tools is preferred.
