About the position

The Structural Engineering Manager at Blue Origin will lead a diverse team focused on the design and development of the Forward and Aft Modules of the New Shepard Propulsion Module. This role is crucial for ensuring safe and repeatable space flight, contributing to the mission of lowering the cost of access to space and enabling human space exploration. The manager will foster a collaborative culture while maintaining accountability for execution and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the structural design team for the New Shepard Propulsion Module.
  • Identify problems and their root causes, ensuring solutions are implemented.
  • Guide the team through system architectural decisions and requirements derivation.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing and integration support for timely delivery of systems.
  • Assess flight readiness for fielded vehicles and conduct verification audits.
  • Plan and execute component and subsystem-level testing, including data analysis.
  • Plan hiring needs and recruit the best talent for the team.
  • Align subsystem architecture with development plans that match program budgets.
  • Create and maintain detailed schedules for the team's work and resource allocation.
  • Provide detailed progress reports to senior leadership and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 5+ years of proven experience in launch vehicle, aviation, or automotive development.
  • Demonstrated expertise in sizing and design of structural components.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with reusable rocket systems.
  • Familiarity with ITAR regulations and compliance.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills.
