About the position

The Psychiatry Research Associate position at UC San Diego's Department of Psychiatry is a part-time limited appointment role focused on administering educational interventions to individuals with dementia and their family caregivers. Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, the incumbent will engage with caregivers and their loved ones diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD) to facilitate an educational intervention as part of a research study examining sleep patterns in this demographic. This role involves programming sleep watches for participants, maintaining and importing data for statistical analysis, and assisting with various research-related tasks such as recruitment, screening, and assessment of study participants. The incumbent will be responsible for identifying potential participants, scheduling and conducting in-home assessments, obtaining informed consent, and acting as a liaison between study participants and their physicians. Additional responsibilities include preparing research forms, maintaining research charts, coordinating with laboratories, and ordering necessary supplies. The role also requires regular attendance at research meetings and contributing to discussions regarding the study's progress. Administrative tasks may also be assigned as needed, ensuring that the research operations run smoothly and efficiently. Responsibilities

  • Administer educational interventions to persons with dementia and their family caregivers.
  • Assist in programming sleep watches for study participants.
  • Maintain and import data from sleep watches for statistical analyses.
  • Recruit, screen, and assess research participants.
  • Identify potential participants and schedule in-home assessments.
  • Obtain informed consent from study participants.
  • Serve as a liaison between study participants and their physicians.
  • Prepare research forms and maintain research charts and study materials.
  • Coordinate with laboratories and order supplies as needed.
  • Enter data and assist in interpreting data under the supervision of study investigators.
  • Attend and contribute to research meetings.

Requirements

  • Theoretical knowledge in Psychiatry, psychology, or a related field.
  • Possession of a valid CA driver's license and reliable transportation to participants' homes.
  • Ability to master assessment of research participants and provide psychosocial interventions.
  • Theoretical knowledge of Alzheimer's Disease and gerontology.
  • Knowledge of behavioral sleep theories and therapies.
  • Knowledge of caregiver stress and sleep interventions.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to follow structured psychosocial interventions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for professional interactions.
  • Ability to develop collaborations and professional relationships with community agencies.
  • Demonstrated experience with personal computers and software applications like Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Good organizational skills for maintaining participant tracking and assessment materials.
  • Proven ability to document research procedures accurately and maintain participant confidentiality.
  • Experience in administering sleep education programs to dyad participants.
  • Experience in programming Actiwatch sleep watches for research use.
  • Ability to evaluate participant risks in conjunction with the Principal Investigator.
