About the position

As a Publicist for CNN Morning Programming, you will play a crucial role in supporting the strategic publicity efforts for CNN's morning shows, which air from 5 AM to 12 PM ET. This position requires a fast-paced communications expert who can work collaboratively within the CNN Worldwide communications teams. You will be responsible for drafting and distributing guest listings, broadcast transcripts, video segments, and ratings, ensuring that all materials are accurate and timely. Your role will involve researching and pitching creative placements, interviews, stories, and speaking opportunities for CNN journalists and anchors, which will require a strong understanding of news and politics. In addition to these responsibilities, you will coordinate and strategize with various teams across the division and the wider communications team as necessary. Maintaining accurate anchor bios, headshots, and fact sheets about anchors, journalists, and programs will be part of your daily tasks. You will also be responsible for maintaining and creating targeted press lists based on bookings and news events, which is essential for effective communication with the media. Your role will extend to partnering on internal events and employee engagement activities, supporting event planning and execution for both industry and company events. You will collaborate with the department to ensure that all documents are maintained and distributed in a timely manner to key stakeholders. Additionally, you will help manage PR campaigns for assigned projects that span CNN's linear and digital platforms, from development to implementation, with oversight and guidance from the wider team. Regularly tracking media coverage and gathering media recap reports will also be part of your responsibilities, ensuring that the publicity efforts are effective and well-documented.

Responsibilities

  • Support the strategic publicity efforts for CNN morning programming (5am-12p ET).
  • Draft and distribute guest listings, broadcast transcripts, video segments, and ratings.

Requirements

  • 4-6 years of experience, preferably with a media, news or public relations/publicity organization.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and stellar attention to detail.
  • Strong, polished interpersonal skills and ability to work with talent and executives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interest in and understanding of news and politics with excellent judgement.
  • Existing relationships with press covering media, news or politics preferred.
  • Public relations agency experience preferred.
  • Prior administrative experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Collaborative and team-player.
  • Four-year college degree preferred.
  • High-level proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and Slack.
