About the position

The Publicist at Pauline Books and Media (PBM) plays a crucial role in generating favorable public interest and awareness around PBM's book titles, audio/visual productions, and related projects. This position is designed for a full-time employee, preferably on-site in Boston, MA, although off-site or hybrid arrangements may be considered. The Publicist will work closely with the Marketing team to build and manage relationships with major media outlets and Catholic influencers, collaborating with PBM authors and other stakeholders to enhance sales and discover content marketing opportunities. In this role, the Publicist will actively participate in the development of marketing strategies, including media plans, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), timelines, audience targeting, and messaging for individual projects and overall brand awareness. The Publicist will report directly to the Manager of Marketing and will also collaborate with the Editorial, Design, Sales, and Webstore teams to ensure cohesive communication and marketing efforts. The Publicist's responsibilities include gathering necessary materials to understand projects and competition, analyzing these materials to determine effective communication techniques, and assisting in the development of communication campaigns across various media platforms. The Publicist will also seek out and manage media opportunities for PBM authors, arrange for project coverage in major media outlets, and develop gift packages for influencers and collaborators to foster relationships. Additionally, the Publicist will maintain a database of outreach efforts and evaluate the success of campaigns upon completion.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with PBM sales and marketing teams to understand products and communication needs.
  • Gathers materials necessary to understand projects and competition, analyzing them for effective communication techniques.
  • Assists in developing communication campaigns across social media, print media, and other multimedia platforms.
  • Works with the Marketing Team to create and maintain the annual marketing plan.
  • Actively seeks out, pitches, and manages media opportunities for PBM authors and collaborators.
  • Arranges for project coverage in major media outlets, including setting up interviews and events.
  • Develops gift packages for influencers and authors to build excitement and relationships.
  • Attends relevant publishing house meetings and conducts research on projects and marketing opportunities.
  • Attends trade shows and events to support PBM booths and authors.
  • Maintains a database of outreach and project coverage efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Journalism, Advertising, Communications, or a related field.
  • Three to five years of related PR experience in publicity, writing press releases, and pitching media.
  • Strong commitment to promoting Gospel values and familiarity with the Catholic faith.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Creative thinking and willingness to suggest innovative ideas.
  • Exceptional organizational and research skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 and social media communication tools.
  • Ability to learn new technical skills and software.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
