About the position

Marzetti Company is looking to hire team members who will grow with us on our journey towards world class operational excellence. The position of Purchasing Coordinator is responsible for reviewing ingredient and packaging inventory and making decisions concerning ordering to meet plant and production needs. Position involves a high volume of communication with vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Works respectfully with all team members to ensure the Safety, Quality, production and support of our products and goals on a daily basis.
  • Practices integrity, respect, accountability, continuous improvement and positive interactions with all Team Members and visitors.
  • Actively participates in Marzetti Operational Excellence, special projects or tasks, and modification programs as needed with prior approval.
  • Actively participates in department/shift/team meetings and is involved with improvement/resolutions & follow-up.
  • Maintains highest standard of Safety for all functions on an ongoing basis and ensures compliance for self and others to OSHA standards.
  • Performs daily inspection of all PPE required including but not limited to SLIP-RESISTANT/STEEL-TOED SHOES, safety glasses, gloves, shields and aprons to ensure good overall condition of items that provide optimal personal safety & protection while working in the facility.
  • Successfully acquires and maintains Lock Out-Tag Out Certification for machine and safely performs all functions in accordance to OHSA and company requirements and standards.
  • Performs daily inspection of power equipment with proper documentation.
  • Completes Behavior Based Safety Observations (BBSO), corrects issues when identified, and participates in problem solving.
  • Completes Behavior Based Quality observations (BBQs), corrects issues when identified and participates in problem solving.
  • Ensures compliance to quality, food safety / HACCP, FSMA, Food Defense, 5S, OSHA and other support programs; assures conformity to all company, customer and government standards.
  • Communicates any concerns related to product safety, integrity, quality and legality to management or to the confidential hotline if the need for anonymity is necessary.
  • Works with Customer Service and Sales on customer promotions and/or issues.
  • Reviews raw material inventory and places POs as needed to vendors for accurate & timely arrival for production.
  • Reviews daily schedules and orders bulk ingredients as needed.
  • Coordinates with vendors to expedite or push out POs as necessary based on customer service to ensure ingredient availability for production.
  • Reviews daily Projected Production Reports and expedites ingredients as needed to meet production needs.
  • Corrects invoicing issues for accounting.
  • Reviews daily PO list for PO's that are late and contacts vendors for shipping information.
  • Reviews daily PO Edit report and makes comments on any line that is marked with an asterisk.
  • Serves as backup to the Purchasing Clerk and Purchasing Manager.
  • Enters POs in Prism as needed for raw ingredients or packaging material. Matches POs with vendor confirmations and files as necessary.
  • Keeps ordering cards up to date with correct vendor prices and contract information if needed.
  • Works with vendors on non-conforming material as needed.
  • Regular Attendance is required in accordance with Company attendance policy and procedures.
  • Performs tasks or responsibilities as assigned by Management.
  • Complete initial/annual training to ensure the individual is properly qualified (QI) to perform all required job tasks as outlined in training programs/records.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years production planning, inventory or purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment required, preferably in food-related industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to appropriately work with confidential information and situations and manage correspondence.
  • Strong organizational abilities, capable of multi-tasking, strong computer system, analytical and math aptitude.
  • Working knowledge of production processes, scheduling systems and inventory control in manufacturing.
  • Ability to read & interpret written & verbal direction while working in a safe, effective & productive manner within a fast-paced environment.
  • Associate Degree in related field preferred; High School Diploma or GED required.
