The Quality Control Technician at Zep Inc. plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and compliance of raw materials, formulations, and finished goods. This position involves sampling, analysis, and maintaining the orderliness of the QC laboratory, while also preparing reagents and solutions for lab analysis. The technician will work closely with supervisors and associates to troubleshoot non-conforming batches and ensure that all quality control documents are accurately prepared and filed. This role is essential for maintaining the high standards of Zep's cleaning solutions and supporting the company's commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.

  • Sampling and analysis of raw materials, formulations, and finished goods to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Records the raw data/results from testing.
  • Provide formula troubleshooting for non-conforming batches to assign disposition.
  • Maintain orderliness of QC laboratory, and washing glassware as needed.
  • Preparation of reagents/solutions needed to complete lab analysis.
  • Reports any lab instrument malfunctions to lab manager.
  • Prepares and files all quality control documents.
  • Complete inventory transactions for compounding work orders in SAP as it relates to delivery, confirmation, and quarantine of non-conforming formulations.
  • Prepares samples for shipment to outside testing lab.
  • Reviews testing to prepare product release of certain products.
  • Conducts routine Lab equipment calibration.
  • Manage sample retain program.
  • Proper disposal of expired raw materials and formulas.
  • Disposes of waste chemicals appropriately.
  • Monitors chemicals/reagents/solutions for expiration date and replaces accordingly.
  • Assist in the inventory of supplies and upkeep of lab and equipment.
  • Participate in company safety and other training programs.
  • Overtime may be required to meet production demands.
  • Assist with special projects designated by manager.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry or related science field.
  • Familiarity with classic wet chemistry and instrumental techniques (HPLC, GC, FTIR, Karl-Fischer, Auto titrators, Flashpoint testers, Viscometers, colorimeter, Moisture analyzer).
  • Experience with computers and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to interact well with supervisor and associates.
  • Strong verbal/written communication and mathematic skills.
  • Minimum 1 year experience working in lab environment.
  • Knowledge of SAP ERP system is preferred.
