About The Position

The Electrical Test Technician / QC Lead is responsible for testing, modifying, and repairing electrical power equipment post-production to meet the highest quality standards. This role combines hands-on electrical and environmental testing, troubleshooting, failure analysis, and data evaluation, along with leadership duties in quality control. The role includes coordinating daily QC tasks, supervising QC activities, communicating with other departments, and driving continuous improvement. A strong understanding of electrical principles, NEC, UL, CSA safety standards, and mechanical knowledge of electro-mechanical systems is required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree in electronics or electrical engineering technology preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in electrical testing and quality control in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of electrical testing, wiring schematics, and use of precision instruments.
  • Detail-oriented, adaptable, customer-focused, with proficiency in MS Office and data analysis.
  • Ability to read schematics and technical documents and perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to organize work, motivate a team, and implement continuous improvement practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with sheet-metal and busbar fabrication and assembly.
  • Experience with engineering drawing/blueprint and Bills of Materials.
  • Use of precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, scales, torque wrenches).
  • Knowledge of power distribution components (circuit breakers, relays, surge suppression).
  • An advanced certification (Arc flash, certified electrical technician, etc.) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical tests, including Hi-pot, Megger, and Power tests, maintaining logs and reports.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues, analyze root causes, and recommend solutions.
  • Conduct in-process and final inspection/testing of electro-mechanical systems and electrical components, verifying product specifications.
  • Develop, modify, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for test methods and ensure testing adheres to industry, customer, and internal standards.
  • Review wiring diagrams and test values using digital multi-meters and other test equipment.
  • Execute pre-qualification tests during product development, analyze failures, and recommend improvements.
  • Coordinate daily QC activities, assigning tasks based on priorities and availability.
  • Conduct team check-ins, provide guidance, offer training, and support motivation.
  • Communicate with Leads, Supervisors, and other departments to prioritize high-importance units.
  • Monitor team performance and compliance with safety protocols, providing regular feedback.
  • Develop and implement training plans to enhance the skills of current QC team members.
  • Facilitate meetings to review QC status, discuss improvements, and document issues.
  • Maintain detailed records of test and inspection results, completing and filing all related documentation.
  • Record job traveler information, upload job paperwork, and track QC data.
  • Monitor and process PO receipts, NCRs, DMRs, and RMAs.
  • Update inspection forms, testing procedures, and maintain a safe, organized workspace.
  • Conduct end-of-day reviews, communicating challenges and QC status.
  • Identify recurring issues, contribute to quality alerts, and suggest improvements.
  • Support QC Supervisor in reviewing technical documentation.
  • Implement systems, procedures, and certified operator programs to improve first pass yield.
  • Participate in Gemba walks, collaborate on continuous improvement projects.
  • Follow all safety standards, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
