About the position

Quality Inspector 3 - Non-exempt at Hanwha Aerospace USA involves performing critical inspections on aerospace components to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, customer requirements, and company specifications. The role is essential in maintaining the quality standards of flight-critical Aerospace/Defense components and assemblies. The inspector will be responsible for conducting first piece, in-process, and final inspections on aircraft engine components, which includes checking dimensions, assessing finishes, and identifying any nonconformances. The inspector must approve items that meet specifications and recommend actions for those that do not. This position requires a thorough understanding of blueprints and the ability to review internal operation sheets against customer specifications. The inspector will utilize precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers to verify the conformance of machined features. They will also be responsible for documenting all inspection activities accurately, including receiving, in-process, and final inspections. The role requires effective communication with co-workers and supervisors to coordinate inspection activities and ensure that all requirements are met. The inspector will also oversee and prioritize the workload within the inspection department, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and accurately. Additionally, the inspector must be adaptable to different inspection methods and willing to cross-train in other shop disciplines. Familiarity with Root Cause Corrective Action tools is beneficial, and the inspector will participate in training as required. The position is based in Cheshire, CT, and reports to the Quality Control Supervisor. Regular attendance and the ability to work independently are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Perform first piece, in-process, and final inspections on aircraft engine components.
  • Check dimensions of related surfaces, holes, and assess finishes for compliance with specifications.
  • Approve items within specifications and recommend disposition of nonconforming items.
  • Verify identification of parts and suppliers, both internal and external.
  • Obtain blueprints and company specification sheets for inspection.
  • Review internal operation sheets against customer blueprints.
  • Determine inspection procedures to ensure complete verification of specifications and dimensions.
  • Obtain necessary fixtures, gauges, and indicators for checking parts.
  • Complete assurance checklists during the inspection process.
  • Perform dimensional checks of parts while in the machine when necessary.
  • Reject unacceptable items and document nonconformance.
  • Complete required company paperwork on inspection activities.
  • Oversee, prioritize, and delegate workload among inspection staff.
  • Communicate status of parts to upper management and coordinate activities with co-workers.
  • Organize and maintain the inspection department and gaging methods.
  • Work independently and efficiently to meet customer requirements.
  • Participate in training as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least five years' experience as an aerospace part inspector or equivalent education and experience.
  • Expert knowledge of blueprint reading and machinery limitations.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and correspondence.
  • Familiarity with Pratt & Whitney, GE, Sikorsky, and SNECMA requirements.
  • CMM experience with PC-DIMS recommended; not required.
  • CMM Programming experience preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years' inspection experience, preferably in the Overhaul and Repair industry.
  • CMM software knowledge - PC DMIS 2015 or better preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a FAA Repairman's certificate.
  • Physical ability to perform duties including standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and bending.
  • Visual acuity to read machine dials, gauges, and precision measuring equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Shadow Graph inspection or ability to train on Shadow Graph is a plus.
