About the position

This position is responsible for Quality Assurance coordination and execution of both internal and external inspections, internal and external audits, and creation, revision and enforcement of procedures and specifications. In addition, this position works with suppliers, customers, 3rd party auditors and personnel from various departments and locations within Valmont to identify and develop quality assurance action plans and procedures. The Quality Supervisor works closely with stakeholders and serves as the Quality Management Representative in the absence of the Quality Manager. This position is responsible for the supervision of all quality inspectors of all shifts. The quality department ensures that product meets the expectations of customer standards, including all national or international regulating bodies, and Valmont's own internal quality standards. In addition, this position aids in identifying opportunities for improvement regarding processes. While in the position, the Quality Supervisor will work to identify and develop quality improvement policies, procedures, and action plans.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Plant Manager if/when a Quality Manager is not available and dotted line reporting to the Regional Quality Manager.
  • Has approximately 10 direct reports.
  • Ensures that the Quality Policy is communicated, implemented, and maintained throughout the facility.
  • Serves as the facility's Management Representative for Quality if/when a Quality Manager is not onsite.
  • Select, onboard, train, supervise, evaluate, and develop quality control employees to be successful in their roles.
  • Serve as an advocate for the customer, clarifying and reinforcing customer expectations, and fostering a culture of quality.
  • Conduct process audits of key manufacturing and business processes to ensure conformance with QMS requirements, and to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Capable of travel approximately 15% of the time.
  • Monitor production processes and intervene when appropriate to support process control.
  • Contain, evaluate, and disposition nonconforming products; investigate root cause of nonconformances; and develop, implement, and evaluate corrective actions.
  • Support the timely and effective resolution of customer complaints, including performing field work when assigned.
  • Collect, analyze, and report data related to quality, such as costs of poor quality and FPY.
  • Review, validate, and retain quality records and associated reports, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist team members with interpretation of shop drawings and specifications, QMS requirements, and customer specifications.
  • Assist team members with completing any certifications necessary to perform their duties.
  • Assist with the development, review, and implementation of QMS documents.
  • Perform inspection and testing duties as required by customer specifications, national specifications, international specifications, and any other requirements that provide acceptance criteria for Valmont products.
  • Serve on cross-functional teams to support improvements in organizational performance.
  • Establish and maintain professional working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager and Regional Quality Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 1 years of quality control experience, or Associates' degree with at least 2 years of quality control experience, or at least 4 years of quality control experience in a manufacturing or fabrication facility.
  • Proven ability to lead, problem solve, plan, and lead customer service initiatives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledgeable, or ability to learn about concrete batch processing and ACI accreditation skills (Field, Lab, and Aggregate testing).
  • Knowledgeable about basic quality tools, such as a pareto chart, a fishbone diagram, FMEA, and root cause analysis.
  • Basic knowledge of statistical process control and process capability.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Able to make informed, rational, data-driven decisions.
  • Able to persuade and motivate others.
  • Able to interpret codes and standards, shop drawings, and specifications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelors or Masters degree with previous quality control management experience.
  • Basic understanding of statistical process control and process capability.
  • ACI certifications in (1) Field Testing (2) Lab Testing (3) Aggregate Testing.
  • Certified as a quality manager, auditor or quality engineer (e.g., ASQ, CQA, or ASQ CQE).
  • Formal Lean Six Sigma training or experience leading Six Sigma projects.
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification.
