About the position

The R&D Chemical Engineer at TOK America is responsible for conducting critical testing of prototype products, development samples, and raw materials in a lab and clean room environment. This role emphasizes adherence to safety protocols and standard operating procedures while contributing to the research and development of new chemical formulations that meet customer requirements. The engineer will collaborate with teams in Japan and participate in external technical meetings, ensuring the successful scale-up of lab prototypes to manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct critical testing of prototype products and development samples in a lab setting.
  • Adhere to corporate, state, and federal regulations when handling hazardous materials.
  • Conduct research and development of specific formulations to meet customer requirements.
  • Solve complex technical problems and recommend solutions.
  • Test and analyze new formulations and raw materials using analytical equipment.
  • Establish test methods for correlation with customer results.
  • Document and report both internal and external technical data.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the R&D team in Japan.
  • Participate in external technical meetings with customers as necessary.
  • Obtain necessary data for scaling lab prototypes to manufacturing.
  • Create documentation for chemicals and waste generated after testing.
  • Provide custom manufacturing of chemical solutions for customers.
  • Set up lab instruments and equipment as necessary.
  • Support troubleshooting and maintenance of analytical and lab equipment.
  • Conduct evaluations of new equipment and establish standards.
  • Assist in operations for new projects and continuous improvement activities.
  • Perform other related duties for smooth facility operation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, physics, materials science, electronics, or relevant education.
  • Minimum 3 years of working experience in basic chemistry or 1 year with an M.S. degree.
  • Practical knowledge of scale-up and manufacturing of new chemical products is a plus.
  • Previous laboratory experience and understanding of product development concepts is a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe/Foxit software.
  • Strong background in materials characterization using various analytical techniques.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. degree in chemistry, physics, materials science, electronics, or relevant education is a plus.
  • Experience with XPS, electrochemistry, XRF, ellipsometer, goniometer, zeta-potential analyzer, optical microscope, SEM, TEM/STEM, Electron Diffraction, and EDS.
