R D Co-op BD Interventional Surgery, located in Warwick, RI, is a leading developer, manufacturer, and marketer of innovative, life-enhancing medical technologies. We focus our business on key surgical specialties, including Surgical Instruments, Soft Tissue Repair, Surgical Fixation, Infection Prevention, Biomaterials and Orthopedic/Wound Management Irrigation. BDI Surgery is situated in a central location, surrounded by a scenic coastline with easy access to T.F. Green Airport, AMTRAK Train Stations and Route 95, a major highway connecting to Providence, Connecticut, Boston and New York City within a short amount of time.

Responsibilities

  • Undertakes and successfully completes simple or basic project/product development tasks.
  • Building and evaluating product prototypes.
  • Developing and writing test methods.
  • Developing and documenting new product concepts.
  • Documenting all test results and assembly processes.
  • Attending and contributing to product development meetings.
  • Creating/inventing new concepts and designs/approaches for new products/processes/test methods.
  • Designing, procuring and fabricating simple tooling and fixtures.
  • Designing and coordinating engineering tests and experiments.
  • Participating in innovation challenges sponsored by the organization.
  • Communicating technical results/findings to a broad audience of varied technical expertise.
  • Completing basic tasks on engineering documentation.
  • Training technicians/operators on new processes and/or test procedures.
  • Identifying areas for improvement, suggesting solutions and submitting idea records.
  • Special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college/institution and be in good academic standing pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, Polymer Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or similar field.
  • Only students in their Sophomore year or above will be considered.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required (or 4.0 for those enrolled in programs with a 5.0 scale).
  • Must be available to work during session indicated.
  • Demonstrated record of leadership and/or participation in campus programs and/or community service activities.
  • Driven individual with an interest in medical device development.
