About the position

As an R&D Chemist / Chemical Engineer at Baker Hughes, you will play a pivotal role in the research and development of innovative drilling and completion fluid technologies. This position involves validating the viability of new technologies from conception to deployment, ensuring that our solutions enhance well construction efficiency and safety in the Oil and Gas and Geothermal sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting research and experiments to analyze data and test hypotheses to gain an understanding of products and processes.
  • Applying sophisticated scientific understanding to research or development problems to provide inventive solutions toward new development efforts.
  • Collaborating with research and manufacturing functions throughout product development cycle projects to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Communicating research results to stakeholders through reports and presentations.
  • Creating and protecting intellectual property for the company to ensure ownership of products and designs.
  • Working in R&D, product modification, product scale-up, and chemistry troubleshooting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or other scientific/petroleum degree or 5 years' experience in the Drilling & Completions Fluids industry.
  • 3+ years' experience testing and formulating Drilling & Completion Fluids.
  • 2+ years' experience working in a Lab.
  • Strong foundation of laboratory skills and safety.
  • Ability to develop new test methods for in-depth product characterization.
  • Solid understanding of chemical structure-property relationships.
  • Excellent problem-solving, process improvement, and analytical skills.
  • Basic understanding of project management.
  • Excellent written and verbal English skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to regularly lift and stand for an extended amount of time, frequently lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds.
