About the position

As a Radiation Therapist I at City of Hope, you will play a crucial role in the treatment of patients affected by cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. Your primary responsibility will be to administer radiation therapy to patients while ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the process. You will be expected to maintain a professional demeanor and uphold the mission and values of City of Hope in all interactions with patients and staff. This position requires adherence to all department rules and regulations, particularly those related to radiation safety measures for both patients and personnel. You will also be responsible for maintaining all equipment in safe working order and reporting any defects or deficiencies to the appropriate personnel, including service engineers and physicists. In addition to technical skills, you will need to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, providing a positive work example to patients and colleagues alike. You will relay important treatment information to staff and family members in a timely and professional manner, ensuring that all patient charts are accurate and up-to-date. Continuous clinical proficiency is essential, and you will be required to meet all competency evaluation requirements within the first six months of employment. Participation in department meetings is also expected, and if you are unable to attend, you must notify the lead therapist in advance. This full-time position operates on a day shift schedule and offers a supportive work environment focused on professional development and patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Administer radiation therapy to patients while ensuring their safety and comfort.
  • Maintain professional demeanor and conduct in all interactions with patients and staff.
  • Follow all department rules and regulations, particularly regarding radiation safety measures.
  • Maintain all equipment in safe working order and report any defects or deficiencies.
  • Relay important treatment information to appropriate staff and family members in a timely manner.
  • Ensure quality and accuracy of patients' charts and report any mistakes to physics staff and lead therapist.
  • Maintain clinical proficiency and meet all requirements for the 6-month competency evaluation.
  • Attend all department/in-service meetings and notify lead therapist if unable to attend.

Requirements

  • Must have a 2- or 4-year degree in the field of Radiation Therapy, or a certificate in an accredited radiation therapy program.
  • One-year recent experience in an acute care facility as a nursing assistant or equivalent.
  • Must have an active BLS certification, preferably through the American Heart Association.
  • Must have obtained the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification in radiation therapy or show proof of working towards this certification.
