About the position

The position involves administering prescribed doses of radiation to specific body parts using radiation therapy equipment, adhering to established practices and standards. The primary responsibility is to ensure that radiation therapy is administered accurately and safely, as prescribed by the physician. This includes verifying the prescribed treatment dose before each session, confirming the fields to be treated, and ensuring the correct angles are used. The role also requires the use of protective devices to shield healthy tissue from radiation exposure, simulating patients using various devices such as CT scanners to accurately localize treatment areas, and maintaining professional conduct to ensure the well-being of patients undergoing radiation oncology treatment. In addition to administering treatment, the radiation therapist must maintain accurate and detailed documentation of treatment charts, observe the clinical progress of patients, and utilize clinical decision-making skills to recognize and report any signs of complications. Adherence to radiation safety protocols is crucial, including performing machine safety checks and reporting any abnormalities to the Center Leader. The therapist will work closely with the Radiation Oncologist and the therapy team to prepare treatment plans and must adhere to the Radiation Therapist Code of Ethics. Regular attendance, punctuality, and the ability to be on call are essential, as is contributing to team efforts by achieving related results and meeting processing and reporting deadlines. The role requires a commitment to high ethical standards and the ability to perform any other functions as required by management, ensuring that all responsibilities are met effectively and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Administer radiation therapy as prescribed by the physician.
  • Verify prescribed treatment dose before each treatment.
  • Verify fields to be treated and angles to be used.
  • Assure placement of protective devices to shield healthy tissue.
  • Simulate patients using simulator, CT scanner, or other devices.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed treatment chart documentation.
  • Observe clinical progress of patients and report complications.
  • Adhere to radiation safety procedure protocols.
  • Perform machine safety checks and report abnormalities.
  • Work closely with the Radiation Oncologist and therapy team.
  • Adhere to the Radiation Therapist Code of Ethics.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
  • Ability to be on call as needed.

  • Ensure all processing and reporting deadlines are met.

Requirements

  • ARRT Board eligible.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of radiation therapy technology.
  • Certification in Radiation Therapy Technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist.
  • Two years clinical experience in a similar setting.

Nice-to-haves
