About the position

The Switchman position at Road & Rail Services involves working closely with crews to ensure the safe and efficient switching of railcars using locomotive power. This role is critical in maintaining the flow of rail operations and requires adherence to all safety regulations and operating procedures. The Switchman will be responsible for switching and spotting railcars, building trains, and delivering cuts of cars to Class 1 and Short Line railroads, all while ensuring safety in various weather conditions. In addition to switching duties, the Switchman will perform general railroad tasks such as coupling and uncoupling cars, operating switches and derails, applying hand brakes, and making minor repairs to railcars, including the replacement of air hoses and knuckles.
