About the position

The Range Operations Specialist serves in a Range Operations facility, integrating live-fire activities, air drops, and close-air-support operations. The role requires a working knowledge of Army Regulations, Range Standard Operating Procedures, and Safety Regulations. The specialist coordinates and schedules activities among various military branches and civilian agencies to avoid training conflicts, controls air drops and live-fire activities, and interprets safety diagrams. The position also involves map development, conducting Range Certification Classes, and maintaining accurate records of training activities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties in a Range Operations facility integrating live-fire activities, air drops, and close-air-support operations.
  • Maintain knowledge of Army Regulations, Range Standard Operating Procedures, and Safety Regulations.
  • Assist in coordinating and scheduling activities between military branches and civilian agencies.
  • Control air drops and live-fire activities on the Range/Training Complex.
  • Interpret Surface Danger Zone (SDZ) and Weapons Danger Zone (WDZ) diagrams.
  • Assist with the preparation and updates of Military Installation Maps (MIM).
  • Develop and produce training maps to SRP standards.
  • Conduct output of existing geospatial data and provide map support.
  • Conduct Range Certification Classes as required.
  • Maintain records of all weapons fired and personnel trained.
  • Assist in planning, scheduling, managing, and evaluating Range Control activities.
  • Report major problems or requests for deviation from safety practices.
  • Coordinate the use of ranges and ensure compliance with safety policies.
  • Operate range control radio nets to monitor training areas.

Requirements

  • An Associate’s Degree from an accredited College or University AND One (1) year of professional Administrative experience; OR
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent AND Three (3) years of professional Administrative experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Army Regulations and Florida National Guard Regulations.
  • Knowledge of military weapons.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to communicate with Senior Military Leadership.
  • Ability to create and maintain excel spreadsheets for accounting procedures.
  • Ability to supervise people.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret budget reports.
