Recruitment Counselor -GEAR UP

About the position

The GEAR UP Recruitment Counselor position is a full-time role funded through a federal grant aimed at supporting students in the graduating classes of 2025 at Fitchburg Public Schools. The counselor will work to enhance students' awareness and readiness for higher education, improve graduation and enrollment rates, and provide information on postsecondary options and financing. This role involves collaboration with students, schools, and community partners to achieve these objectives.

Responsibilities

• Recruit middle/high school students for academic support programs.
• Plan, schedule, and conduct recruitment events such as career fairs and workshops.
• Coordinate student information events and after school clubs.
• Develop and organize community outreach programs and identify new partners.
• Outreach to GEAR UP-eligible students and parents, including travel to off-site locations for college tours.
• Assist in meeting recruitment objectives and developing strategies for student recruitment.
• Perform administrative tasks such as data collection and organization, preparing reports, and managing correspondence.
• Interact with various agencies and individuals to coordinate activities and resolve issues.
• Maintain professional knowledge in applicable areas and stay updated on relevant laws and trends.
• Coordinate activities of assigned work study students.
• Perform miscellaneous tasks such as answering phones and scheduling appointments.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Organizational Behavior, Sociology, Liberal Arts, or a closely related field.
• Two years of experience in public education, college admissions, academic advisement, or customer service.

Benefits

• Salary range of $54,793 - $93,394 based on education and experience.
• Full-time position with 37.5 hours per week.
• Grant-funded position with an end date of September 2025.
